Dear Heartland Families,
I am so excited about the adventures that we will go on this school year. I have been at Heartland since we opened our doors and I love our school and our students-we are the best! This is my eighth year in education, but my third year as assistant principal and literacy resource specialist. I previously taught fourth grade for five years. I have my Masters in Administration, my Rank I in Supervisor of Instruction from Western Kentucky University. I am currently working on my superintendency certification.
I have been married for 10 years to my husband Jason and we have two wonderful children, Noah and Faith. As a family we enjoy playing outdoors, reading books, and playing Wii.
Our whole school is involved in the Literacy First process. If you are not familiar with Literacy First, it provides assessments for teachers to administer to students to help them determine the specific skills that your child needs to work on. These assessments help teachers group students so that their reading instruction is as beneficial as possible. In primary, students spend a lot of time working on phonics and sight words. In intermediate grades, students work hard on developing fluency and comprehension skills. If you have any questions regarding Literacy First, please don't hesitate to contact me.
As assistant principal I am here to help students be successful in all areas of our school. Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns; especially any concerns related to discipline or bus issues. I am looking forward to a fantastic and exciting school year!
